TRAINING LEVELS

Choose Your Path

Level 1: Foundations in Textile Care

Entry Level | No Prerequisites

The foundational training level, covering the essential fiber knowledge and care principles every high‑end textile cleaner needs. Ideal for those entering the industry or formalizing their existing knowledge.

Requirements

  • Completion of the foundational course covering core cleaning techniques, fiber identification, and safe handling
  • Complete a virtual course on customer service
  • Complete a virtual course on Wool Safe

 

Assessment

Written and practical assessments. The minimum time requirement may be waived by the TCREI Training Advisory Board.

Level 2: Practitioner in Textile Care

Requires Level 1 + 1 Year Experience

Building on foundational knowledge, the practitioner level focuses on specialized techniques, equipment proficiency, and fiber‑specific cleaning methods for more challenging high‑end textiles.

Requirements

  • Completion of the practitioner course, including advanced stain removal on designer textiles
  • Proficiency with specialized cleaning equipment
  • Understanding of fiber and construction specific cleaning methods
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Level 1 trained cleaner

 

Assessment

Written and practical assessments demonstrating competence in core textile care principles and techniques.

Level 3: Specialist in Textile Care

Requires Level 2 + 2 Years Experience

For experienced practitioners working on the most complex, high‑value textiles. This level covers advanced inspection, fabric correction, and problem‑solving on manufacturer‑specified and designer‑specified pieces.

Requirements

  • Training in advanced, high‑value cleaning scenarios
  • Fabric correction and restoration
  • Advanced inspection techniques
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Level 2 trained cleaner

 

Assessment

Written and practical assessments. The minimum time requirement may be waived by the TCREI Training Advisory Board.

Level 4: Master in Textile Care

Requires Level 3 + 3 Years Experience + Research

The highest level of professional recognition. Master‑level practitioners demonstrate expertise across fibers and constructions, co‑develop protocols with the TCREI research team, and train and mentor the next generation of qualified high‑end cleaners.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive expertise across fibers, constructions, and dyes used in high‑end textiles
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others
  • Contribution to TCREI research or protocol development
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Level 3 trained cleaner
  • Submission of a research project or case study

 

Assessment

Comprehensive written and practical assessments. The minimum time requirement may be waived by the TCREI Training Advisory Board.

Common Questions

How long does each training level take to complete?

Course duration varies by level. Level 1 typically takes 4 to 8 weeks of study plus assessment time. Higher levels require progressively more study time and hands‑on experience with high‑end textiles. Specific time requirements are outlined in each course curriculum.

Yes. The minimum time requirement for Levels 2, 3, and 4 may be waived by the TCREI Training Advisory Board on a case‑by‑case basis. Applicants seeking a waiver should be able to demonstrate equivalent experience or exceptional competence in high‑end textile care.
